Shotton Grange is a wonderful alternative for a venue that mixes classic charm with contemporary elegance and is the sister venue to The Parlour at Blagdon. This stately Georgian home is surrounded by acres of exquisitely groomed grounds and is just under a mile down the road from the Parlour. The walled gardens are one of the big features of Shotton grange alongside the main house with its luxury feel and expansive bedrooms, bathrooms and social spaces. Furthermore, as of 2023 Shotton have also landscaped the front of the home with a gorgeous garden area with flowers and plants, as well as an impressive fountain, which is rather attractive.

The Vermont is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in Newcastle, and it’s not difficult to understand why. The Vermont’s magnificent ballroom, breathtaking views of the city, and superb service make it the ideal location for a stylish wedding celebration. It even has a rooftop bar area for panoramic views if your not scared of heights.
Wylam Brewery in exhibition park is a great alternative wedding venue and probably one of the only venues in Newcastle centre with ‘nature’ vibes for family and couple portraits due to the grass, trees, lake surrounding it. A real benefit being located in Exhibition park if you ask me. This restored industrial facility boasts exposed brick walls, towering ceilings, and an amazing bar serving some of the region’s finest craft brews. It really should be top of you list for a look around should you be looking to tie the knot in Newcastle.
Northside Farm is a lovely country property that offers a breathtakingly romantic and scenic wedding setting. With its rustic barn, rolling fields, and stunning countryside setting, Northside Farm is the ideal wedding venue for couples who desire a relaxing and elegant ceremony.

When it comes to Newcastle wedding venues it will totally be dependant on your taste as to which you pick. From a photographers perspective if you want my two cents – If you want a combination of a beautiful setting to get ready, nature vibes with grass, trees, flowers etc for photos and good quality service my recommendation out of all 10 venues would be somewhere like Shotton Grange as it ticks all those boxes, if you want more of that city vibe with maybe graffiti walls, bridges and the tyne as backdrops; venues such as The Baltic and As you like it would be good options.
Beautiful Newcastle wedding venues can be found all across the city, a city rich with history and character. Fun fact I was actually born in Newcastle and lived there from birth to around aged 12 when I then moved to Durham in 1998. Newcastle does have a plethora of venues to choose from, whether you choose a traditional barn, a manor, or a modern art gallery, I’m sure you will find the perfect setting for your day. Below you find some expanded info about each venue from the above list which may help you make a decision.
The Secret Tower
The Secret Tower, also known as Sallyport Tower, is a historical building located in the heart of the city and is one of the purist and white Newcastle Wedding venues. It dates back to the 13th century and was once part of the city walls. Thats a pretty cool fact. The tower has been restored and is now a popular venue for weddings and other special events and before being converted for weddings was actually a photographic studio.
Couples who choose to have their wedding at the Secret Tower will find themselves immersed in a unique and historic setting. The tower’s location in the heart of Newcastle provides a city vibe backdrop for photos if you choose to go for a walk, alternatively the venue does have a small garden or you could utilise the terrace for family portraits for example.
The Secret Tower is licensed for civil ceremonies, meaning that couples can say their vows in the brilliant white hall. Here’s a cool fact, after each wedding a painter re-paints the entire floor white, as you can imagine a full day wedding on a white floor, it isn’t white by the end of the night – thats dedication right there.
The room can accommodate up to 70 guests and provides a dramatic setting for exchanging vows, just look at the header photo. Speaking from a photographers perspective, its an absolute dream to photograph as its in affect a giant white box so your always gonna get beautiful skin tones. After the ceremony, you and your guests can enjoy drinks and canapés in the tower’s courtyard garden and terrace.
Checkout this Secret Tower wedding I documented for the lovely Emma and Jack back in 2022, they had a black tie theme for the wedding which honestly looked amazing with the juxtaposition of the white room. So I can definitely recommend going black tie – not to mention it just looks amazing, Black Tie weddings are right up my ally, love them.
One of the things that sets the Secret Tower apart from other wedding venues is its exclusivity. The tower is only available for hire for a limited number of weddings each year, ensuring that each couple receives the utmost attention and care from the tower’s dedicated events team. I guess this is how the painter gets the floor repainted in time for the next wedding haha.

Shotton Grange is a great option for any couple searching for a beautiful and photogenic location to exchange their vows. This venue, set in the rural Northumberland countryside not far from Newcastle, provides opulent lodging for you and your guests in addition to a variety of stunning indoor and outdoor settings. The high ceilings and exposed wooden beams in this open concept room provide an elegant yet homely feel. Jesmond Dene House
As a Jesmond Dene wedding photographer, I highly recommend considering their Secret Garden and Great Hall for your ceremony and reception.
Imagine exchanging your vows in the Secret Garden, surrounded by the enchanting forest and the calming sound of the waterfall. After the ceremony, continue the celebration with a garden party under magical festoon lighting and a Jesmond Dene House-style BBQ. The Secret Garden can also be hired for your wedding ceremony, aperitif, and evening turnaround, or just for the evening turnaround with the use of the Garden Bar.
For larger wedding ceremonies of up to 114 guests, The Great Hall is the perfect choice. This double- height room with oak panelling, minstrels’ gallery, vast fireplace, and lofty windows creates a grand and elegant atmosphere for your special day. For an evening wedding party with entertainment, the Hall can accommodate up to 130 guests for drinks and dancing. If you prefer a more intimate arrangement, smaller rooms are also available to accommodate six to 30 guests.
After the festivities, you and your guests can retire to one of the hotel’s 40 individually designed bedrooms, each with its own unique size and character. Check-in is at 3:00 pm and check-out is at 11:00 am. If you need to store your luggage at reception before check-in, the staff will be happy to assist you. For a stress-free experience, I recommend staying the night before and making it a relaxing getaway.
